Backstory+ and a character that develops over time
Nomi combines a conversational character with settings that supply background and guidance. Backstory+ can describe the fictional persona, relationship, preferences and context important to the ongoing exchange. A user can also begin with ordinary conversation and refine the character gradually.
For an original story, a concise background gives the interaction a clearer direction. Distinguish permanent character traits from a temporary scene. A character’s stable personality and the current scene are different kinds of context.
Groups have their own shared information
A group conversation brings several Nomis together, with a group Backstory describing the scenario and each participant’s role. The user can choose who replies next or use Auto-play. The group also develops its own Mind Map separately from individual chats.
The official knowledge base says participants do not have full access to one another’s individual Backstory+ information. Put the shared facts that every participant needs into the group’s background rather than assuming that creating the room copies all private context automatically.
This is useful for a fictional team with distinct responsibilities. Distinct characters can share a mission without having identical personalities.
Backchanneling is different from long-term memory
Backchanneling shares recent conversational context between a particular group and the private chats of its members. It is off by default and can be enabled in the group settings. It does not directly connect the recent context of separate group rooms.
Long-term memory works differently. A Nomi’s memories can carry across individual and group conversations, even when recent-context backchanneling is off. New information may take time to enter long-term memory, and recall depends on how the subject is raised.
That distinction matters when keeping separate stories. Disabling recent-context sharing is not a guarantee that every older memory is isolated. Use the settings and background deliberately, and ask a focused contextual question when checking continuity rather than expecting a complete verbatim archive.
Voice and media add other forms of interaction
Nomi offers voice messages, spoken responses and calls alongside text. Its visual tools include selfies, art, edits and video. These provide different ways to present an invented scene or character, rather than evidence that a real person is being photographed or participating.
For a recurring illustrated story, review each output against the intended character and setting. Visual consistency and conversational continuity are separate qualities; a good response does not establish that a generated image preserved every detail. Use original adult characters and appropriate rights for any reference material.
The companion’s apparent personality remains an AI interaction. Enjoyment or a convincing conversation should not be treated as a guarantee of emotional understanding, a human relationship or professional guidance.
Subscriptions, slots and credits
The knowledge base distinguishes active companion slots, group rooms and media requests. Eligible paid users can buy credits for additional activities or capacity. A purchased companion slot is reusable if its occupant is later deleted; it is not a fee that must necessarily be paid for every replacement character.
Current credit documentation says credits do not expire and that daily media allowances are used before credits for the relevant requests. Purchasing credits requires an active subscription. Check the exact activity and account conditions rather than treating the balance as unlimited access to every feature.
Nomi offers a free no-card starting route on its homepage. Evaluate one character and a clear scenario first, then decide whether additional groups, voice or media capacity are useful. Assess the interaction and controls actually used.

Nomi FAQs
Do group participants automatically see everyone’s private Backstory+?
No. The knowledge base says they do not have full access to one another’s individual background. Add information needed by everyone to the group Backstory.
Does turning off backchanneling disable long-term memory?
No. Backchanneling concerns recent context. Long-term memories can still carry across a Nomi’s individual and group chats, with variable recall.
Can a purchased companion slot be reused?
Yes. The official guide says deleting the Nomi in a purchased slot allows another to be created there without buying that slot again.
Are credits used before the daily media allowance?
The current credit guide says the relevant daily replenishing allowance is used first, with credits applied after it is reached. An active subscription is required to buy credits.
