Dictation, notes and meeting mode
Letterly presents three related routes. Dictation places text where a user would normally type; saved notes hold an idea for later; meeting-oriented recording produces a transcript and recap. They begin with speech but have different destinations. A quick reply should not need the same organization as a recorded interview.
For someone drafting an email, speaking can capture the essential request before polishing the wording. A writer can collect ideas away from the desk and return to them during editing. In a conversation, the useful record includes who said something and the context around a decision, rather than only a clean paragraph.
Rewriting the spoken draft
The app offers prepared rewrite styles and custom directions. These can convert a rough note into a more suitable form, such as a list, message or summary. A rewrite changes presentation; it should not silently strengthen a promise, invent a missing date or turn uncertainty into a settled conclusion.
Keep the original thought clear before choosing a style. For a personal reminder, preserve the next action. For an interview recap, distinguish the speaker’s statement from an interpretation. For a social post, remove the speech habits that distract a reader without removing the idea that made the note worth capturing.
Text replacements can help with repeated phrases, while uploads provide a route for existing audio or video. Those conveniences support a writing workflow rather than establish that every source or term will be recognized perfectly.
Offline recording is different from offline AI
The official help center says recording can work without an internet connection. Transcription and rewriting need connectivity and finish after the connection returns. This makes offline capture useful during travel or a walk, without implying the full AI process runs locally on the device.
The same help material distinguishes recording duration by plan. Free recordings are shorter than Pro recordings, and a recording reaching its limit stops and saves automatically. A broad claim of unlimited recordings does not mean an individual session can continue indefinitely.
For online meetings, the help center describes microphone capture rather than directly recording a conferencing app’s audio stream. Confirm that the actual setup captures all intended speakers and that participants have appropriate notice. A muted headphone-only participant may not appear in a microphone recording in the way a user expects.
Finding notes and connecting an assistant
Letterly offers keyword search, tags and editing for saved notes. Its MCP service lets a compatible assistant search, rewrite, translate or create notes from another conversation workspace. A useful example is grouping several captured ideas into a weekly planning brief without manually copying each note.
The connection can also supply a writer’s own observations as context rather than relying only on general web information. Keep the requested scope clear: retrieving selected notes and publishing their contents are different actions. Review the destination before sharing a summary containing someone else’s words or confidential work.
Device sync has an important exception. The help center says notes sync when the same email is used, but Dictation History stays on the device where dictation occurred. That difference affects where a user should look for an earlier input.
Choose access around the speech workflow
Current help distinguishes Free and Pro, with limits for notes, dictations and recording duration. It also describes monthly, annual and lifetime purchase routes. Confirm the selected account and store’s billing terms instead of extending a homepage invitation to every feature.
Language detection and translation are useful separate functions, but published language counts differ between the home and help pages. Test the required language in the intended app. A short practical evaluation should complete capture, correction, organization and delivery; that reveals more about value than a speed claim for speaking compared with typing.

Letterly FAQs
Can Letterly transcribe and rewrite while completely offline?
Official help separates offline recording from online processing. Capture works offline; transcription and rewriting finish when the device reconnects.
Will Dictation History appear on every device?
Not according to the current help center. Notes sync across devices signed in with the same email, while Dictation History remains on its originating device.
Does unlimited recording mean an unlimited-length session?
No. The help center states plan-specific per-recording limits, including a longer Pro limit. Check the intended account before recording a long discussion.
